Overview

Tehsil Dunyapur is the most prominent tehsil of District Lodhran spanned across Khanewal-Lodhran Expressway about 30 km from Lodhran. It comprises two National Assembly constituencies and five Provincial Assembly constituencies divided in 22 Union Councils with having nearly half a million population. Malik Tayyab Awan Tehsil Headquarter Hospital is the only secondary level hospital which is providing health facilities to the inhabitants of the whole area. This hospital was established as Rural Health Centre in 1974 and was upgraded as 40-bedded Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in 1996 with the efforts of Malik Tayyab Awan, a renowned politician of this area. The Hospital was shifted in current building in June 2000. The new building constituting the OPD, administrative offices and two male/female wards was completed in 2000. The total covered area of this hospital is above 94 kanal.

The major challenge for Primary and Secondary Health Department is to boost the confidence of general public in the primary health care system. The reality is that most of the institutions at secondary level are not currently providing healthcare services up to the desired level, owing to multiple factors including large patient influx, scarcity of resources, human resource deficiency and non-functional equipment. Due to lack of planning and monitoring, the past efforts did not conclude in the shape of integrated healthcare regime rather these have resulted in haphazard construction, poor maintenance, lack of basic facilities, absence of waiting areas, and shabby outlook. Resultantly, the patients prefer to visit tertiary level hospitals for treatment of even very common ailments. With this in view, the department under the guidance of CM Punjab, had decided to revamp 125 THQ and DHQ Hospitals in 2017.
